What is confirmation?
Confirmation refers to the decision a person makes to respond to God's grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation. Most confirmands are youth between the ages of eleven and fourteen, who have been nurtured in the church since their baptism as an infant or young child. Most churches offer a deliberate time of preparation before this service. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings and The United Methodist Church; and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.
UMC-HUMYF Confirmation Class Information:
- Class Begins Sunday, September 19th, 2010
- The class will be held every sunday @ 9:15 in Building 100 Multi-Purpose Room.
- An introduction meeting for all confirmands and parents will be on August 29th, 2010 immediately after church.
- Prospective confirmands will have to attend 75% of all classes to be confirmed in April 2011.
- Parents are invited and encouraged to be a part of our class. If you would like to help lead a small group for this years class please let us know.
- Confirmands will be encouraged to attend the Confirmation Retreat in Myrtle Beach, February 2011. This event is vital to building relationships.
- Confirmation Class is also great prep for joining HUMYF-Harrison United Methodist Youth Fellowship. The class will give them time to build relationships with other students who will be attending HUMYF programming and events. Who they know is a big part of getting them involved in our Youth Program.
